If you follow me on Twitter, you keep that I've been working crazy amounts of OT. For the month of June, I've hit over 110 hours. Usually my work week looks like four 14-16 hour shifts back to back, then working anywhere from 8-12 hours on my RDOs. I give myself  a 24-hour period work free one a week, to do laundry, meal prep for the week, run errands, and sleep.

Today was my 24-hour work free period, and all week long I've been looking forward to one thing that I wanted to do today: go to the beauty supply store and get more industrial strength concealer for my under eye bags thanks to all the OT, and I was going to splurge, walk around, and treat myself to a few other things yet to be determined that caught my eye.

I worked until 0600 this morning, knocked out by 0730, and was up around 1300. Got ready (aka put on workout clothes so people would be less judgey), and was out the door.

I found the concealer quickly (we are besties), threw in a bath bomb, some lipstick... A couple other things. On what was supposed to be an enjoyable stroll around the beauty store (which I normally really really enjoy and have to work really hard on self-control and not buy EVERYTHING there), I found  myself standing in the middle of the store asking myself if it were okay to leave to go back to bed yet.

A few errands later and I'm back at home. Was thinking of using one of those bath bombs, but came to the conclusion of this:
If I'm going to be laying down, why would it be in a bath and not in bed?

Sounds like I need more sleep. 💤

Working all that OT is definitely going to catch up to you. I worked 2 full time jobs and had a full time college sked. One being an EMT. I know the feeling about lack of sleep. I still graduated 3rd in my class and out performed my coworkers at both jobs. Keep up the good work.

P.S. The @gingernfrekles is me also. Someone high jacked my @sking140 account and Twitter wants my first born child to prove it. So I started a new one. If you'd like to follow I would greatly appreciate it. Poss a shout out. :)

You are awesome and believe what you do is amazing. I just applied with a city PD since CHP fell through.

I don't know how you do it. I've been in the dispatching bushiness for 35 years, and a 12 hour shift anymore is hard for me to recover from.

I enjoy reading your posts on Twitter. You have a good attitude . . . something that is rare in our sort of work. Hang in there!

Thanks for the comment, Tim! Glad you enjoy my tweets. The happy attitude is mostly to counteract the negativity in the job, as in sure you've experienced before. Keeps me sane - would be so easy to give in to the Negative Nancy mentality, but that's just not who I am. ? hope you keep reading!

A twenty-something dispatcher taking 911 calls, yapping on the radio, and dealing with the general public - with a mad case of headset hair. Not quite so jaded yet, but not naive as I once was. Losing my soul one call at a time.

This reflects my views and not the view of my employer, etc.  If you have a problem with this, I suggest using the back button.
