Caller: *very fast Spanish*
DD: "Do you speak any English?"
DD: "Necesitas policia o paramedico?"
DD: "Okay, hold the line for a translator. No cuelgue, okay?"
C: "Hang on mama - that'll take too long... (continues in perfect English)"
This happens all the time. All. The. Time. At least once or twice a shift. Or, I do get a translator, go through the painful process of a 3-way 911 call with the oh-so-great-Language Line, only to figure out it's for a different jurisdiction, and I have to transfer the call. I transfer the call to an Allied dispatcher, and give them the low down, only for the caller to pipe in in English to the other dispatcher.
Seriously?!? Makes me livid.
