Civilian Phonetics

There's some generally accepted phonetics that are used - NATO (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, etc.), Financial (Adam, Bob, Carol, David, Frank), and LAPD (Adam, Boy, Charles, David, Frank).

But my favorite has got to be civilian phonetics.

A as in ahhhhhh!

B as in bubbles

C as in Chattanooga

D as in deluge

E as in echocardiogram

F as in F**K

G as in "gurassic" (I think they meant Jurassic)

H as in hedgehog

I as in... "I dunno"

J as in "just get here now"

K as in kleptomaniac

L as in loser

M as in murder

N as in nope

O as in "oh heeeeellllllllllll naw"

P as in penis. Yes. This has been said.

Q as in "the letter no one uses"

R as in "errrrrrrrrrr"

S as in shit

T as in telefono

U as in unicorn

V as in "very, very, very...extraordinary..." (And yes - this was sung to me)

W as in "well..."

X as in Xavier

Y as in yelling

Z as in "sleeping"

and so, so many more. What crazy phonetics have you heard?

I plan to use "Z as in sleeping" effective immediately.

We have a town with lettered streets.. A B C and so on.
I've heard more often than I feel I should "I as in eyeball" coming from citizens.

Ahhhhahaha that's a good one. There's a joke phonetic alphabet out there with those kinds of words for every letter. I'll have to find it!

A favorite of mine was Z as in "xylophone". Z eh? Do you mean Z as in zebra, or Y as in yellow?
*shakes head*

I’m always consistently getting “U as in Unicorn” from the public. Why does everyone jump to this word?!!!

A twenty-something dispatcher taking 911 calls, yapping on the radio, and dealing with the general public - with a mad case of headset hair. Not quite so jaded yet, but not naive as I once was. Losing my soul one call at a time.

This reflects my views and not the view of my employer, etc.  If you have a problem with this, I suggest using the back button.
