Dinner Conversation

I don't come from a Law Enforcement family. But, my family is proud of me, and what I do, and tell EVERYONE about it.

But bless my mother, she doesn't always pick the most... appropriate stories to tell when explaining my calling.

We were out to dinner with extended family at a nice place - the kind where they have those things that sweep up the crumbs between courses. My cousin turns to my mother, and says something to the effect of "DispatcherDame must have some interesting stories every day!" to which my mother replies with the story about a dog that was run over repeatedly on the highway, and what my officers had to do to clear the dog from the roadway during morning commute.

Loud enough for the tables around us to hear.

I think the whole restaurant heard.

Meanwhile, at the other side of the table, I could be found with my face buried in my phone as to not attract attention.

Because who doesn't talk about dead animals over dinner?

A twenty-something dispatcher taking 911 calls, yapping on the radio, and dealing with the general public - with a mad case of headset hair. Not quite so jaded yet, but not naive as I once was. Losing my soul one call at a time.

This reflects my views and not the view of my employer, etc.  If you have a problem with this, I suggest using the back button.
